The Industrial Workers of the World
Founded: Eugene Debs in 1905
- Also known as the ‘Wobblies.’
- Very left-wing and anti-capitalist.
- Attempted to fight for the rights of poorer workers and immigrants.
- Its militancy and violence meant that it was disliked by employers but by 1923 it did have c. 100,000 members.
It fell into decline after this and was virtually non-existent by 1925.
Only labour union to oppose US intervention in WW1.
