In What Ways Were Trade Unions the Selves Responsible for the Violence in Labour Disputes?

Some trade unionists absolutely did have extreme political views and saw violence as the only way of bringing about the collapse of capitalism.

Anarchists especially, were blamed for this violence, such as during the Haymarket Affair in 1886 which greatly damaged the reputation of labour unions.

Undoubtedly, trade unionists saw violence as a deliberate tactic in furthering their aims. E.g. the Molly Maguires, who were blamed for widespread intimidation, beatings and murders in Pennsylvania in the 1870s.
