Structural Isomers: Compounds with the same molecular formula but different structural formula.
Can also have isomers with different functional groups- aldehydes and ketones.
– The functional groups and side chains are in different positions along first half of carbon chain.
– Can have another isomer by making organic compound shorter, by having CH3 group in middle
and at different positions along first half.
• Way to check if another isomer is to name and can’t have any of same name.
• When there are isomers with more than one functional groups like ClCl, split the Cl apart or put
them with H or C or CH.
