Reaction Between Sodium and Chloride

Reaction Between Sodium and Chloride

Sodium burns in chlorine to produce the white solid sodium chloride – or salt!

2Na(s) + Cl2(g) à 2NaCl(s)

In this reaction, sodium has been oxidized since it has lost electrons. Chlorine has been reduced.
