ATP (ADENOSINE TRIPOSPHATE)
- Immediate source of energy in cells
- Respiration: energy released from glucose is used to make ATP
- Carries energy around the cell where it is needed
- ATP is synthesised from ADP and inorganic phosphate using energy
- ATP diffuses to the part of the cell that needs energy and is then broken back down into ADP and inorganic phosphate, releasing chemical energy
- ADP and inorganic phosphate are recycled so the process starts again
