Form of CBT that is used to identify positive ways to think about a problem.

  1. Conceptualisation – identify stressors and their response
  2. Skill acquisition and rehearsal – coping skills taught
  3. Application and follow through – apply learned skills to other stressful situations

evaluation

  • Self-report isn’t always reliable, may not have worked
  • Teach people how to identify stress and develop ways to deal with it, not just covering up symptoms like drugs
  • SIT is flexible but not quick, easy or cheap.
  • Benefits are long term and deal directly with the stressors
