with his Neville allies. On 22 May 1455, Henry VI came across Yorkist forces at St Albans.
Northumberland, Somerset, and Lord Clifford were killed.
• York gained military power after his victory at St Albans due to capturing the king.
Parliament issued a pardon for the Yorkists. York began his second Protectorate, although
his supporters were still in the minority and he attended Parliament with armed retinues.
• During his second Protectorate, York issued ordinances to limit the size of the royal
household and further establish control over it in July 1455 and February 1456. York was
removed from his position in February 1456 due to opposition from the queen and House of
Lords.
