● Stratford was known as “Stinky Stratford” because of its noxious industries and slaughterhouses
○ Has been in need of investment ever since nearby docks closed in 1970s
○ Unemployment reached 20% after closure of the docks (similar to Great Depression in 1930s)
○ Area missed out on development changes brought to London Dockland areas in 1980s
● Location: Central East London , between boroughs of Tower Hamlets and Newham

■ Accommodation
■ Promotes tourism
■ Brownfield areas to develop and existing stadiums
■ Alpha city
