How does globalisation affect places?

Some people argue that globalisation eradicates the nature of place, which is true to some extent. The process of globalisation involves the growth and spread of big businesses, so in general, it has the effect of places becoming a lot more similar to each other, as big businesses will be able to infiltrate into many places. This could be said to reduce the importance of place, as places become less unique and independent of each other, so places are no longer particularly individual. However, others argue that globalisation actually enhances place. This is because globalisation allows the spread of different cultures and ethnicities, so in a place which has experienced globalisation, there will be a rich range of shop types, services and people, making the place much more diverse and perhaps interesting, therefore enriching it and enhancing the nature of the place.
