Aerobic Respiration

  • Respiration is the process of releasing energy
  • Aerobic respiration uses oxygen from the air to release energy from glucose
  • Happens in every single cell
  • A chemical reaction
  • Glucose + oxygen à carbon dioxide + water + energy

Diffusion:

  • Is the movement of particles from an area of high concentration to low concentration

Why heart and breathing rate change:

  • A faster heart rate means more blood pumped around the body which takes oxygen and glucose to cells faster and removes carbon dioxide faster
  • Faster breathing rate means that oxygen can be taken into the body faster and carbon dioxide released faster
  • Cardiac output = stroke volume × heart rate
  • Stroke volume is the volume of blood pumped in one beat.
