What are the features of cabinet government?

  1. COMMITTEES
  • Much of the day-to-day work of devising and agreeing policy is done in committees.
  • Each committee is chaired by a particular minister and is usually composed of cabinet ministers with portfolios connected to the committee’s area of responsibility.
  • In addition to numerous cabinet committees, there are also a number of sub-committees, which report up to a particular committee, which then reports to the full Cabinet.
  • Since 2010 there have also been a number of ‘implementation taskforces’, which were introduced to help ministers keep track of manifesto priorities that cut across multiple departments.
